Intermediate Phase
This phase is the cushion between the Foundation Phase and the Senior Phase. During this phase, our learners no longer learn to read, but read to learn. Thinking skills and the application of knowledge become the focus of attention. In this phase the learners will encounter specific instruction in specialised subjects.
Grades 4-6
The ethos in the Intermediate Phase is based on recognising that every child is a unique individual. We do not only focus on the academics but want our learners to develop into dynamic individuals who are happy, confident and looking forward to the challenges of life ahead.
In the Intermediate Phase, students:
- Enjoy the challenges of tackling independent tasks.
- Begin to reveal the desire to take control of their own learning.
- Attempt to satisfy their curiosity about the world around them through active and critical enquiry in the learning process.
- Become more deliberate and methodical in their approach.
- Become increasingly more able to access, record and manipulate information.
- Become more increasingly able to investigate, compare and assess.
