The American High School Diploma is typically studied over a period of 4 years from Grades 9-12. There is no National Curriculum to follow, learners need to accumulate a minimum of 22 credits from Grades 9-12 and need to complete certain core subjects and six electives.

With the exception of learners seeking University admission there are no standardised tests/examinations.

The American High School Diploma is the North American academic school leaving qualification.

It is a widely recognised benchmark qualification of American School completion that marks the end of secondary school. The American High School Diploma is accepted worldwide for University admission. In South Africa, it is an approved qualification recognised by USAF (Universities South Africa) for University exemption and application. It is also recognised by SAQA as a Matric Equivalency certificate.

The American High School Diploma is a highly flexible and convenient matric option for homeschooling. It can be configured with as much flexibility or structure as one needs.

The American curriculum offers a balanaced and wide spread educational approach. It is based on the American Core State Standards for English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Sciences and next generation Science standards. The curriculum emphasises the acquisition of knowledge, understanding, critical thinking and problem solving abilities for all learners.
