The GED is the most affordable option for homeschoolers to complete a Grade 12 Equivalent Qualification, making it possible for learners to study further after secondary school. The GED qualification is achieved after writing the GED exams.

Passing the GED provides a learner with certification that the learner has the same academic skill as any United States or Canadian High School Graduate.

GED®

The GED is an American High School Qualification that is internationally recognised as a high school leaving equivalent certificate or a grade 12 equivalent qualification in South Africa.

On successful completion of the GED, learners are issued with a GED High School Diploma and the recognition of having completed high school. GED graduates are able to demonstrate 21st century Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Reading / Writing, Mathematical and Computer Skills needed for college and career / work readiness.

The GED is accepted as a High School Diploma equivalent as it is recognised as a rigorous examination equal to or exceeding high school proficiency. GED exams are aligned with current high school standards (including Grade 12 standards) of the United States. It is also fully aligned to college and career readiness content standards.

The GED tests measures proficiency in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science and Social Sciences.

GED is recognised by SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority). Learners need to apply to SAQA for a "Certificate of Evaluation". (Separate application fees apply).

SAQA has evaluated the GED and found the National Senior Certificate as its closest comparable qualification.

NQA has evaluated the GED and found it to be comparable to a certificate at NQF Level 4.
