Assessments

At Latitude Home Education, our assessments are designed to support meaningful, authentic learning experiences while remaining fully aligned with the CAPS curriculum.

Our Formal Assessment Tasks (FATs) are developed by subject specialists and are carefully tailored to suit the age and developmental level of each learner’s schooling phase. These assessments are not only academically sound, but also designed to build confidence and independence in learners.

We incorporate Project-Based Learning (PBL) into our assessment framework. PBL is a learner-centred, inquiry-driven approach that allows learners to actively engage with content while demonstrating:

  • Critical thinking and reasoning
  • Problem-solving techniquess
  • Self-directed learning strategies
  • Research and reflection skills

Project-Based Learning tasks ensure that a wide range of competencies, skills, values, and attitudes are assessed—exactly as contemplated in the CAPS Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements.

We make assessment easy and efficient for home education families by providing:

  • A "Ready-to-Use" Portfolio of Evidence file for each grade
  • A separate file with detailed marking guidelines
  • Mark record sheets to track learner performance across all formal assessment tasks

This structure ensures that assessment is transparent, organised, and aligned with CAPS requirements—making it easier for parents, tutors, and facilitators to monitor progress and provide meaningful feedback.
